This post is to let you know that there are 'bad actors' that are deliberately trying to take down parts of the Bitcoin infrastructure, presumably to manipulate the price.
In our case this was a few attempts at a DoS attack. With all the recent MtGox news we presume the attacks were timed to try to 'stop MultiBit' and generate bad press.
"OMG Bitcoin is dead !"... again. Sigh. You've seen it all before so don't let these people manipulate you.
The irony is that MultiBit is a decentralised client. Your installed copy of MultiBit connects directly to the Bitcoin network to send and receive bitcoins.
If we accidentally pressed the big red button (we keep it next to the one for coffee :-) http://ift.tt/1dDMG8P ) and switched off multibit.org, all the MultiBit clients worldwide would carry on happily (well, except for the internal help files - losing them is kind of 'meh').
We have written up a more detailed blog post on multibit.org about this here: http://ift.tt/1cbCGIZ
tl;dr People are bashing parts of the Bitcoin infrastructure to get you to sell your bitcoins cheap. Don't let them manipulate you.
