One piece of malware spotted by the researchers was so small and limited in functionality it appeared to be legitimate. It simply looked in memory, replacing Bitcoin transaction addresses to redirect transfers.

This underlines the requirement to use a trustworthy, safe, and completely malware-free computer for all bitcoin-related business. To avoid such attacks, is not sufficient to encrypt private keys or use two-factor-authentication.
